There’s are multiple reasons why Wasabi made it to this list.

For starters, it’s open-source. This means all of its code can be verified by you, or anyone else who understands code. The wallet can not hide backdoors or loopholes.

One of Wasabi’s only low points is its computer-only compatibility. Unfortunately, it isn’t available on any mobile devices yet. You can use Wasabi on Windows, macOS, Linux though.

CoinJoin is one of its strongest features.

Edge is another all-in-one solution as long as you’re looking for mobile-only wallets. Yes, it’s not available on computers. On the flip side, it’s one of the very few crypto wallets available for iOS devices.

Then, it offers client-side encryption. Meaning, all your data/keys and everything else is encrypted on your device before it reaches the wallet. In simpler words, Edge, its employees, the govt. or aliens (not sure about these) have no way to access your funds or account even if they wanted to.

Of course you get your keys and those can be used to recover/export/import or just play with your funds! There’s no personally-identifiable data required during signing up.

Being mobile-centric, you can also secure your wallet using fingerprints or biometrics!

Another one of its amazing features is in-built swaps. You can swap one coin for another without requiring a third-party exchange. Of course, this carries a fee. It’s generally about 0.5%-2%.

There’s no transaction fee on wallet, not even for withdrawals. You also get to choose the speed of the transaction which decides your fee.

Let’s start with anonymous registration. Then, it claims to be the only wallet with “no private key vulnerability”.

It doesn’t even use private keys! Now that sure may be a shocker for some of you, but let me explain. It rather uses MPC cryptography.

That’s a pretty complex process but in simpler words, your account security is now divided amongst multiple parties in an encrypted form. None of these parties have access to your account, or the actual data that they’re entrusted with.

With private keys, you’re the sole owner and guardian of the keys. This makes you an easy target. MPCs can’t be hacked simply because there’s no “key” and no single party owns all parts of the required decryption string.

When this decryption is required, all the machines collaborate together, without having any access to the data they’re helping with.

The wallet also has in-built coin exchange, as well the option to buy Crypto directly using fiat money.

It too is a mobile-only wallet. Also, it only supports Bitcoins. No other coins can be stored on Samourai.

However, there’s no “registration” as such. You don’t even need an e-mail ID. You can start using it as soon as it’s installed on your device.

Two of its unique features include Whirpool and Ricochet. So, Whirpool is basically CoinJoin that we’ve previously discussed. It pools funds from multiple users into a single transaction to add anonymity to your output.

The best part? Samourai doesn’t use a “percent-based” fee. Rather, you pay the same fee regardless of your mixing amount.

Additionally, Samourai gives you 3 pool options to select your funds from! The fee can be as high as 0.025BTC or as low as 0.0005BTC.

Ricochet is something that should interest you. When you buy funds from any source, you never know where your source got the funds from.

Now, it’s possible that the coins were a part of some illegal transaction in the past? Or maybe some agency report claims that one of your last 4 transactions for this address were not fully legal!

In this piece, I only discussed software wallets.

That’s because these are free, easy to install and use and offer more features.

However, nothing beats the anonymity or security you get with hardware wallets.

These are basically devices which look and function like USB-sticks. Your cryptocurrency essentially lives on these devices.

These are also air-gapped, meaning, they aren’t always connected to the internet. Hence, there’s no way these can be hacked or stolen.

Also, registration is as anonymous as can be. Even you can’t prove it’s your wallet unless you keep explicit purchase receipts. Sometimes, not even with the receipts!

The only reason I didn’t make this list about them? These are generally expensive, anywhere between $50.00-$500. Also, setting them up is slightly different than setting up software wallets.

Let’s face it, these wallets alone can not make you 100% anonymous.

Well, here are a few tips that should add to your anonymity and make you as anonymous as possible.

Do note that these steps aren’t mandatory. They’re completely optional and these wallets are anonymous even if you skip the steps. However, following these would massively add to your anonymity.

Download a good VPN (My recommendation is NordVPN)
Install NordVPN and connect to a server.
Download your Crypto wallet only after connecting to the VPN.
Always use NordVPN when using the wallet.
Never purchase Cryptocurrencies using fiat modes (credit/debit cards, bank transfers etc.).
Try and obtain your funds using P2P payment modes.
When paying for your Cryptocurrency, opt for cash if possible.
Always use Coinjoin/Whirpool when sending funds/making a purchase using your wallets. The cost is negligible but the benefits are priceless.
